To paraphrase Terry Pratchett, we have to learn to believe the little lies like Father Christmas so that as we grow up, we can believe in the big lies, like liberty and justice, because belief is the thing that makes them *real*.
Solstice is the reason for the season! (Okay, I admit that doesn't rhyme, so it's not as true as it would be if it did, but it's true enough.)
