I have just received a National Agricultural Classification Survey. As god is my witness, I don't know how to answer these questions. Does 2 and 1/4 acres qualify as farmland if I am trying to grow things but failing dramatically? I didn't do so bad this year. I got some monster zucchini and turned them into zucchini pie. Tastes like apple pie but with Zucchini.
But do zucchini qualify as produce? It's hard *not* to grow zucchini. If I grow three cucumbers, does that qualify as produce? What if I don't eat the cucumbers, because there are only three of them and when they are gone, I will have no more?
I did grow tomatoes this year. Lots of them, but I didn't plant enough to make sauce or to sell any, so maybe that doesn't qualify either.
If I sold four dozen eggs last year, does that count as revenue? My apple trees produced fruit, but it was mostly too scabby to eat. Does that qualify as an orchard? What if I plant a peach tree and the goat eats it?
Is the goat livestock if I have no intention of breeding him and he is mostly a pet who eats blackberries and nettles?
What if I *would* sell produce if I actually grew any?
I *want* it to be agricultural, and I am putting lots of energy into it, I'm just a long way from even minimal success.
Should I just scrawl LOL on the survey and return it?
